Has an explosion affected your home, building or business premises? Les Expertises LMS supports policyholders in Quebec with reviewing their file, documenting losses and preparing discussions with their insurer. The work depends on the agreed mandate and policy coverage.
Where should you start after an explosion?
People’s safety comes before collecting documents. Follow the instructions of responders on site and do not enter a building unless access is authorized. Report the loss to your insurer as soon as possible and keep the information already available.
For an initial discussion, note the date, location, affected areas and steps already taken. You do not need to know every cause of the event to explain what you observed. Distinguish your observations from findings recorded in a report.
What information can be documented?
- Visible damage to the building, windows, doors and fixtures;
- affected belongings, equipment or stock;
- photographs and reports received from the relevant professionals;
- expenses incurred and correspondence with the insurer.
This list helps organize information. It does not establish which losses will be paid: policy coverage, conditions and limits need to be examined in the context of the claim.
How LMS supports your claim
Policy analysis helps identify provisions to review. The damage assessment brings together observations and records supporting the amounts presented.
Claim preparation then organizes the documents and outstanding questions. Within the agreed mandate, LMS represents you in discussions and settlement negotiations with the insurer.
Questions after an explosion
Do I need to identify the cause myself?
Provide the facts you know and the reports available. Avoid presenting an assumption as a certainty. Technical questions requiring specialist expertise should be examined by the appropriate professionals.
What if a fire also occurred?
Describe the different types of damage and where they occurred. The effects of fire, smoke or soot may require additional information. Our fire insurance claim page explains relevant steps and documents.
My insurer already has an assessment. Can I show it to LMS?
Yes. Bring the assessment, your policy and the correspondence received. This helps review the current file and identify questions to clarify before agreeing to a possible mandate.
Example
An explosion damaged windows and equipment. Photographs, item descriptions and available estimates help organize the losses to be examined.

Free consultation and fees
The initial consultation is free. If you retain us, LMS’s fees are deducted from the insurance settlement paid at the end of the settlement process, as set out in the written engagement agreement. You are responsible for these fees. Take time to understand the services included and the payment terms before signing.
In past claims handled by LMS, additional settlement amounts obtained have offset our fees. Results vary from case to case; this outcome is not a guarantee for your claim.
